Powder Coating vs PVDF vs Anodizing: How to Specify Aluminum Finishes for Coastal and High-UV Projects (AAMA 2603/2604/2605)
By TOTTME Technical Team ยท
Powder coating, PVDF and anodizing offer different appearance and performance characteristics. AAMA 2603, 2604 and 2605 are organic-coating performance specifications; a 70% PVDF system is one common option for 2605, not the only possible chemistry. Anodizing is specified separately.
What should buyers check?
Specify the location and exposure, coating or anodizing system, applicable standard edition, pretreatment, thickness, color sample and tolerance, gloss, test scope, maintenance and written warranty. Qualicoat and Qualanod are quality schemes, not automatic proof of a particular AAMA rating. Salt-spray test hours do not predict service life.
Performance depends on the substrate, system configuration, glass build-up, finish, installation, environment and project requirements. Confirm report numbers, test scope and compliance documents for each project.
